What is the Master Gardener Program?
The Master Gardener Program provides intensive training in horticulture to
interested gardeners who then volunteer their time assisting with educational
programs and activities for Ohio residents through their local Ohio State
University Extension county office.
Working with county Extension personnel, Master Gardeners provide such
educational services to their communities as: answering gardening questions from
the public; conducting plant clinics; gardening activities with children, senior
citizens, or disabled persons; beautifying the community; developing community
or demonstration gardens; and other horticultural activities.
How do I know if I'd make a good Master Gardener?
You could qualify to be an Ohio Master Gardener if:
• You want to learn more about plants and gardening.
• You are eager to participate in a practical and intensive training program.
• You enjoy sharing your knowledge with others.
• You have the time to attend training and serve your community as a volunteer
educator.
When is Master Gardener training conducted?
The third Lawrence County OSU Master Gardener training will
begin Tuesday, February 27, 2007. The training will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. every
Tuesday
until April 24 at the OSU Lawrence County Extension Office located in the Lawrence
County Courthouse. Contact the office by Fe. 13 to register.
Is there a fee for Master Gardener training?
Yes, there is a $75 fee for Master Gardener training. The fee covers the cost
of training materials and other expenses the county may incur to conduct
training and to help support educational activities. The volunteer will also
need to have a BCCI (criminal background check) conducted which costs $20 (cash)
at the Lawrence County Educational Service Center (hours 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
If you do NOT plan to serve as a volunteer, the cost of the course is $150. If
both you and your spouse want to attend the cost is $75 for the first person and
$50 for the second, but only if you plan to volunteer, otherwise it is $150
each.
So, join us to discover gardening from a whole new aspect!
